Umea Institute of Design is truly a great school offering state of the art equipment and open facilities to its students. The schools exotic location far up in northern sweden creates a family like atmosphere among's the students. This also allows the students to focus and get years of intense design education.

The school is very international and has a close relation with the industry. Tommy did his Master degree project "Honda Hermes" in cooperation with Honda´s advanced Studio WAVE. The project was lead by earlier graduated UID student Paolo Grasioli.

After 5 years of design studies at UID Tommy Forsgren was offered to go and work for Porsche entwicklung Center in Weissach under Harm Lagay. It was a limited contract with focus on exterior design under the Lead of Grant Larson. This opportunity was a great springboard for Tommy's design carrier which until now has taken a much broader spectrum than just car styling...

2002 after taking a company car for a ride from Weisach Tommy had an interview with Designworks Munich director Laurenz Schaffer who convinced him that Designworks is the company to be with. Now almost a decade later Designworks is still growing in success and ranked among's the top creative companies in the world. Schaffer is now president of the company which just recently expanded with another studio located in Shanghai.

Tommy has since 2008 worked as lead designer by DW where he takes a creative part in the design process from initial concepts creation to 3D modeling and visualization. As part of BMW Group its a privilege to create designs for the in-house brands such as BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce. The last year Tommy has been working on an exterior design under the lead of Karim Habib and together with design icons as Joji Nagashima, Chris Chapman and Erik Goplen.
